About Us
Arthur Street Trading is a workers co-operative with social objectives and aims. We reinvest all profits back into the company to offer a fair price for our products so that they are more accessible for those on lower incomes, create jobs if we can, support local food projects, and support local growers. Buying our products means that you become a part of that positive energy!.
We're really pleased that many consumers now have a better understanding of the link between the environment and the food on our table, and our customer feedback certainly shows this! (as well as championing the delicious taste of the products, of course!). We try to source our goods locally to cut down on food miles.
We have a great customer base and thank you all for your continued support!. You diligently help us to re-use all our veg boxes so we can try to keep packaging to a minimum and support our quest to find ways to reduce our environmental impact.
Because local produce is subject to seasonal and regional variations, we cannot adhere to a strict "only local" policy, although we are delighted to say that nearly all of our veg is from Yorkshire!. Similarly there are some now everyday food items that cannot be grown in Britain, such as oranges, grapes, avocados, and we have to look overseas to ensure we meet our customers' requirements. We avoid air freight where possible, however. Buying organic means we support environmentally-friendly farming in other parts of the world.
Thanks for your support.
Graham Brooks and Paul Hanson - Directors.
Our History
Arthur Street Trading Company Ltd was established in West Hull in the mid-1990s. A workers' co-operative, Arthur Street's roots stretch back into the 1980s.
Arthur Street was set up in order to provide affordable, high quality organic foods. Sourcing organic fruit, vegetables, wholefoods and other groceries from local growers and national suppliers, we have provided an award winning box scheme throughout Hull and surrounding towns and villages since 1999. We feature foods that are free of artificial preservatives, colours, flavours, sweeteners, and hydrogenated fats, and food miles is always a priority - for many years we even used to use a solar powered milk float to make some of our deliveries!
